A 3D map of your crew’s trek
A Scout backpacking trek is days of climbing, switchbacks, long ridgelines and camps the crew will talk about for years. Topo & Timber turns that route into a 3D printed model of the real terrain you crossed, with your exact path raised in a contrasting color and a nameplate with your crew’s words, mounted on wood.
Design your crew’s map. It’s free to design, and you can save it and come back.
Made for treks like Philmont
The sample on our home page is Crew 320’s 2026 trek at Philmont: many days of trail across the mountains of northern New Mexico, printed in olive green with the route raised in orange, on a live-edge slab. Long treks at high adventure bases, council camps and wilderness areas all work the same way. If you hiked it in the U.S., we can map it.
Multi-day routes look best because there is more terrain to show: the climbs to each peak, the valleys where you camped, the long descent on the last day. You can make the relief more dramatic (up to 2.5×) so mountains read clearly from across the room.
What you need
- A GPX file from the crew member or adviser who tracked the trek on a watch or phone. Our GPX export guide shows how to get one from AllTrails, Strava or Garmin.
- No GPX? Choose “Build it for me” (+$50) and send the itinerary: start and end, camps, peaks and trail names. Ryan traces the route for you.
- Nameplate text. Three short lines, for example the place, “Crew 320”, and the year or itinerary.
We email you a preview to approve before anything is printed, so you can check the route and the nameplate spelling.
Sizes, wood and price
Two sizes, measured as the printed terrain: 150 × 150 mm (about 6 × 6 in) for $119 and 190 × 190 mm (about 7.5 × 7.5 in) for $159. Choose natural alder, walnut (+$20) or a live-edge slab. There are 5 terrain and route color pairings. Shipping is a flat $12 in the U.S. The first 25 keepsake orders get a founding price.
Most keepsakes ship about two weeks after you approve the preview. For a court of honor or an end-of-season banquet, order early and approve the preview quickly.
For advisers and parents
A crew map makes a good thank-you for an adviser, a gift for a Scout who just finished their first big trek, or a piece for the troop’s meeting room. If you don’t have the route, a gift card lets the Scout design their own.
Questions
Can you map a multi-day Scout trek?
Yes. Upload the GPX from whoever tracked the trek if one recording covers it, or choose “Build it for me” and send your itinerary: camps, peaks and trail names. Ryan traces the route and emails a preview before anything is printed.
What can go on the nameplate?
Up to three short lines in your own words, such as the ranch or area, your crew or troop number, and the dates or itinerary. We can’t print logos or emblems.
Can every Scout in the crew get one?
Yes. Each keepsake is its own order, so once one design is saved, ordering more is quick. If your crew has a 3D printer, print-it-yourself files are $24 and may be printed as many times as you like for yourself, your family or your crew.
Is it official Scouting merchandise?
No. Topo & Timber is an independent studio and isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Scouting America, any council, or any high adventure base. We map the route you hiked.
Which treks can you map?
Any route in the United States, since the terrain comes from U.S. Geological Survey elevation data. Mountain treks with big climbs show the most dramatic relief.
