How do I get a GPX file?

Tip: use a computer. Most apps only export from their website.

AllTrails
On alltrails.com: Profile → Activities → open your hike → ⋯ → Download route → GPX. Trail pages can be downloaded the same way. Help
Strava
On strava.com: open the activity → ⋯ menu → Export GPX.
Garmin Connect
On connect.garmin.com: Activities → open the activity → gear icon → Export to GPX.
Gaia GPS
In the app: Saved → pick the track → More → Export → GPX.
Komoot
Open the tour → ⋯ → Export GPX file (or Download on the website).
CalTopo
Open the map → Export → GPX.
Apple Watch
Apple’s apps can’t export GPX. Sync the workout to Strava or AllTrails and export it there, or use a free exporter app like RouteDrop.

Never recorded it? Find the trail on AllTrails and download it, or trace it for free on CalTopo and export a GPX.

Questions

Don’t have a GPX?

Tick “No GPX?” in step 1 and tell us the trail, a link, or your itinerary. Ryan traces it and sends you a preview to approve. Buying for someone else? A gift card lets them bring their own route.

What do I need?

A GPX file of your route. Most hiking and fitness apps can export one from the activity page.

Where does the terrain come from?

Real elevation data from the U.S. Geological Survey, so U.S. routes only for now. Your exact route is laid on top.

Is my route private?

Yes. Your saved design is only reachable through its private link, and we keep only coordinates and elevation, never names or times.

What does it cost?

Small $119, large $159 (walnut +$20), plus $12 flat shipping and sales tax. The first 25 orders get a founding price. Print-it-yourself files are $24.
