A gift for the hiker who has everything

Most gifts for hikers are more gear. This one is about a hike they already did: a 3D printed model of the real terrain, with their exact route raised on top and a nameplate in your words, mounted on wood. It’s made from a GPX file, the route file their watch or hiking app already recorded.

Design a gift or buy a gift card.

Two ways to give it

You know the hike

Upload their GPX file, or choose “Build it for me” (+$50) and tell us the trail. Pick a size, colors and wood, and write up to three lines for the nameplate: the trail, the date, a summit, a line only they will get. We email you a preview to approve before anything is printed, then ship it to you.

Let them choose

Buy a gift card for $50, $100 or $159, sent by email or as a printed mini terrain card mailed to you (+$10). They upload their own hike and design the keepsake themselves. This is the easy choice if the route is a surprise you can’t get, or if they have a favorite trail you don’t know about.

Getting their GPX without spoiling the surprise

If you share an account or they’ve shared the activity with you, you can often export the GPX yourself. Our GPX export guide covers AllTrails, Strava and Garmin. If not, “Build it for me” works from just the trail name. Many hikers have one trail they talk about more than any other; that one is a good pick.

Good occasions

What it costs

150 × 150 mm (about 6 × 6 in) is $119 and 190 × 190 mm (about 7.5 × 7.5 in) is $159. Walnut adds $20. Shipping is a flat $12 in the U.S., plus sales tax where required. Routes must be in the United States, because the terrain comes from U.S. Geological Survey elevation data.

Questions

What if I don’t have their GPX file?

Give a gift card. They design the keepsake themselves from their own hike. It comes by email, or as a printed mini terrain card mailed to you (+$10) so there is something to wrap. Gift cards never expire.

Can I order one from just the trail name?

Yes. Choose “Build it for me” (+$50) and tell us the trail, a link to it, or where they started and finished. Ryan traces the route and emails you a preview to approve.

Will it arrive in time?

Most keepsakes ship about two weeks after you approve the preview. If you’re close to a date, a gift card arrives right away by email. Any holiday deadline is shown on the home page.

Can they see the price?

No price is printed on the keepsake. A gift card shows its amount.

What if it arrives damaged?

Email a photo to hello@topoandtimber.com within 7 days of delivery and we’ll remake it free.
